The "real Pachuco" is a 12 year-old Lilac-headed Amazon parrot. He and I live in Albuquerque. I dedicate the book to my grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially my granddaughter Maya Mariah who observed the bird cages in my kitchen in Albuquerque one morning and said, "Pachuco, you are the King, and Mirasol, you are the Princess."
And that is how the story began.
